NAPALM DEATH To Release Exclusive Tour T-Shirt Designed By Artist SEAN TAGGART
October 16, 2012British grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH will embark on a North American coheadlining tour with MUNICIPAL WASTE later this month. The five-week trek also features EXHUMED as support, plus VEKTOR, DAYGLO ABORTIONS, ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT and SPEEDWOLF on select dates. During the tour, NAPALM DEATH will be selling t-shirts designed by artist Sean Taggart (CRUMBSUCKERS, AGNOSTIC FRONT). NAPALM DEATH bassist Shane Embury comments: "As everyone should know, we grew up on a steady diet of the musically extreme, be it death/thrash metal or hardcore punk! Two album covers stood out to us back in the day more than any others as being both satirical and serious at the same time — those being CRUMBSUCKERS' 'A Life Of Dreams' and AGNOSTIC FRONT's 'Cause For Alarm'. To me, those album covers capture my youth and enthusiasm for what has now become our lives: playing the music we love all around the world. So with this tour coming up with MUNICIPAL WASTE in the U.S., we thought to ourselves, 'Why not get in touch with Sean Taggart — the man behind those covers and all of the awesome flyers from CBGB's back in the day— and ask if he would do an exclusive shirt, just for us?!'" Sean agreed to make the shirts for NAPALM DEATH since, as he says, "they're the heaviest motherfuckers ever!"
To get your shirt, be sure to visit the merch table at one of NAPALM DEATH's upcoming shows. These tees won't be available online, so this will be your only chance to have this exclusive, wearable piece of art.
NAPALM DEATH is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Utilitarian" which sold around 2,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD debuted at No. 14 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
NAPALM DEATH's previous album, 2009's "Time Waits For No Slave", opened with around 1,800 units to land at No. 19 on the Heatseekers chart.
"Utilitarian" was released on February 27 in Europe and February 28 in North America via the band's longtime partner, Century Media Records. The cover artwork (see below) perfectly fits the album's theme and was created by the Danish artist Frode Sylthe, who is also responsible for THE HAUNTED's "rEVOLVEr" artwork.
